Lingfield in the Tandbridge District of Surrey is known for its horse racing links. Situated east of the A22, the village’s Church of St Peter and St Paul hails from the medieval period, which is Grade I listed and boasts a fine collection of monuments and brasses. There are other buildings of historical within the confines of the settlement: the library, Star Inn Cottages and Church House, The Garth and Old House are all Grade II listed. Pollard House, a pre Tudor hall house, has been given a Grade I listing. Lingfield has a custody cage, built in 1773 to keep criminals and its last hapless resident was a poacher in 1882.
Lingfield also contains a great selection of eateries and pubs. There are three curry houses as well as Thai and Italian restaurants, to date, and two pubs, the Greyhound and Star, which rouse villagers on a cold winter’s night and see much laughter in the summer months. Leisure pursuits also abound such as the traditional brass band, the Lingfield Silver Band, and the Lingfield and Dormansland Rifle Club. Your Epilepsy, a national charity, has its HQ in Lingfield, supporting students who have the illness.
